Diabetics need to take huge steps to manage and control their diabetes. It all comes down to the basics of how you take care of your body and its functions.

Your body, to function at its best, needs to be "fueled" with the right Foods, it needs to stay active in some ways, and you need to be aware of any changes that may occure. Feel free to use our Diabetic Tool Box below and start controling your diabetes today!

Golden Rules Diabetics Must Follow:

-- Follow a "diabetes meal plan".
If you dont have one yet, ask your health care provider about one or view our "Complete Guide about Eating and Diabetes" in the diabetic tool box below.

-- You Must Make Healthy Food Choices.
Eat foods that have less fat and less salt and you need to eat foods with more fiber(whole grains breads, cereals, crackers, rice, etc.. and yes "Portion Control" is always in effect. Use our tools below to help you do just that.

-- Get Active.
It does not mean to sign up to a gym or buy expensive work out machines. 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week is all it takes. Use the activity calculator tool below to give you an idea of what you can do to stay active + how many calories you will burn at the same time.

-- Stay at a healthy weight by using your meal plan and moving more.

-- Check your feet and skin every day.
Look for cuts, blisters, red spots, and swelling. Get in touch with your health care provider right away about any sores that do not heal. Download the "PDF" Feet & Skin" below for some good tips.

-- Take Your Medicines
Even when you feel good, take it.

-- Check your blood glucose (blood sugar) daily.
You may want to test your blood glucose one or more times a day and keep a record of your numbers to take to your doctor on your next visit.

-- Report any changes in your eyesight to your doctor.

-- Stop smoking.
Ask for help to quit.

-- Ask for help if you feel down. A support group, friend, or family member is a good place to start. They will listen to your concerns and it may help you feel better. Visit the forum listed below to talk about it.
